Fortnite's Rare Pirate Shop Token Hunt Triggers Profiteering and eBay Listings
Fortnite players are resorting to questionable tactics to obtain the ultra-rare Pirate Shop Token.
The recent One Piece crossover event in Fortnite has ignited a frenzy among players searching for a coveted Pirate Shop Token, which allows them to access the item shop without spending any V-Bucks. Those fortunate enough to acquire this token can claim virtually all in-game items for a limited time of two weeks, although real-money purchases, gifting, and Battle Pass rewards are excluded. Once claimed, these items become a permanent addition to the player's account. However, it seems that players are engaging in behaviors that Epic Games would likely disapprove of in their quest for the token. This includes sharing exploits, selling automated farming tools, and even offering paid services to guide others in securing the token. While Epic has not disclosed an official drop rate, players believe the token can be found in only one out of approximately 700,000 chests, making it incredibly rare. To speed up their chances of obtaining the token, players have devised methods to trigger the drop more efficiently. These tactics include using grenades and cannonballs to destroy chests located within locked vaults, allowing them to open multiple chests simultaneously without the hassle of acquiring keys. One player even showcased a screenshot of a tool that indicates the locations of all chests during a match, advertising their services to help others obtain the token for a fee. This clearly strays from the intended gameplay experience. Additionally, various listings on eBay are attempting to profit from this frenzy, with Fortnite accounts featuring Pirate Shop access being sold for exorbitant prices. Some accounts are listed at $9,000 or $10,000, although they currently have no bids. As the season nears its conclusion on December 4, the demand might increase. It’s important to note that Epic’s terms of service strictly forbid the buying and selling of Fortnite accounts, as well as any forms of cheating or exploitation. Players who attempt to profit in this way risk having their accounts banned, which could lead to the loss of access even after purchasing the account. The original owner could also report the account as stolen, further complicating matters. Therefore, spending thousands of dollars on Fortnite accounts is highly discouraged. For those interested in acquiring the Pirate Shop token through legitimate means, there are guides available detailing the process, as well as an overview of the entire Treasure Hunters mini-season. Players can also keep track of the random weekly rewards dropping from treasure chests and utilize checklists to hunt down all the pirate-themed Sprites.
