Charlie Cox Finally Tries Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The actor known for his role as Daredevil, Charlie Cox, has shared his experience with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 after previously feeling unworthy of the praise he received for his contribution.
Charlie Cox, renowned for portraying Daredevil, has recently taken his first steps into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Previously, he expressed feelings of being a "total fraud" whenever fans complimented him about his role in the game. In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Cox lent his voice to the character Gustave but did not perform motion capture, which was carried out by a different actor. This meant that the time he dedicated to recording his lines was quite brief, totaling around four hours. Last June, Cox revealed his discomfort when fans praised him for the game, stating he had yet to experience it himself. He noted that he needed to get a new gaming console before diving in. "I remember being in the studio and thinking, 'This is beautiful, the visuals are extraordinary,'" he remarked, reflecting on how far video games have progressed since the days of Mario 64, the last game he had played at that time. In November, he acknowledged any accolades he might receive for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 should rightly go to the French actor Maxence Cazorla, who executed the majority of the character's motion capture. "Yes, I'm thrilled for this nomination," Cox stated. "But I have to emphasize that Maxence is the one who truly brought the character to life, while my contribution was simply the voice." He was nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2025, although the award ultimately went to his co-star, Jennifer English. Recently, during an interview with GamesRadar+, Cox shared an update on his gaming journey, confirming that he has indeed started playing Clair Obscur. "I've since played a bit of it," he admitted. "Not the whole thing, I haven't completed it. I've explored the beginning and interacted with characters, but I’m not particularly skilled at it." Cox also revealed that his experience with Clair Obscur has opened doors for him in the gaming industry. In a conversation with the YouTube channel Agents of Fandom, he mentioned that his role in the game had inspired him to pursue a new video game project this year, one in which he is more actively involved.
