Helldivers 2 Update 6.2.2 Introduces Major Balance Adjustments and New Biomes
The latest update for Helldivers 2, titled Machinery of Oppression version 6.2.2, is now available, featuring extensive balance changes and two fresh biomes.
Arrowhead has swiftly responded to player feedback by launching a new patch for Helldivers 2, named the Machinery of Oppression update 6.2.2. This update brings significant balance modifications and introduces two new biomes, following a wave of constructive, albeit critical, player commentary. The update coincides with the release of the Exo Experts Warbond, which presents players with new exosuit designs tailored for intense combat scenarios and fire-oriented tactics. Key features of this update include the addition of two new biomes, a new variant of enemy, substantial rebalancing of Exo Suits, adjustments to enemy strength, as well as modifications to sidearms and stratagems. Additionally, players can expect the customary bug fixes. Among the notable fixes are: - The sound for the Enthusiastic Mirth emote has been corrected, allowing laughter on the battlefield once more. - Fireworks have been replenished for players who complete the tutorial, celebrating their achievement. One of the newly introduced biomes is a vibrant forest planet, marking a first for Helldivers 2. According to Arrowhead’s in-game description, "The beauty of our most Democratic galaxy is truly unparalleled. As we explore new realms, we have found planets adorned with serene forests, featuring meandering paths and shelter from towering trees. Beneath the tranquil canopies, our Citizens can pause to reflect on the triumphs of Managed Democracy and the accomplishments of Super Earth's heroic champions." However, this picturesque setting is not without its dangers. The developers have noted the presence of several Un-Democratic adversaries on the outskirts, along with concerning signals from Gloom-ridden planets that hint at larger-than-average Terminid convoys, reminiscent of the ominous Bile Titan signals detected in other areas. In response to player concerns about Exo Suits sustaining damage too easily, especially against the Automatons, Arrowhead has implemented significant tweaks to enhance their durability. The main health pool has been increased from 850 to 1600, and now Exo Suits will only be destroyed when the main health pool is depleted, rather than from damage to specific health zones. Another noteworthy change is that the Heavy Devastators’ shield is now destructible, and once destroyed, it will drop from the unit. Additionally, the armor of the War Strider's leg hip joints has been adjusted from Heavy to Medium, changing its resistance from 4 to 3. These balance adjustments may make gameplay in Helldivers 2 a bit more forgiving, but they come alongside increased durability for a wide array of enemies, which has drawn some criticism from players who prefer vehicles. Arrowhead explained this decision by stating, "We believe that Automatons and Illuminates deal substantial damage to vehicles, especially with the adjustments made to the Exo Suits. However, Terminids had lagged in their vehicle-damage capabilities, prompting us to boost their effectiveness against tougher targets." Despite Helldivers 2 remaining one of the top choices on Steam, recent community feedback has highlighted various grievances. Johan Pilestedt, the studio's chief creative officer, held an AMA on Reddit to engage with the community's concerns, acknowledging the disappointment expressed in the forums. "I initiated this AMA to grasp the underlying issues causing dissatisfaction," he shared. "The points raised are valid, and while some are tough to read, they stem from players who are passionate about Helldivers and wish to see it thrive." He also recognized requests for more attention towards older systems, gear, progression, resources, and the Galactic War, while addressing perceptions that Arrowhead has focused on Warbonds over long-requested improvements. As fans and Arrowhead contemplate the future of Helldivers 2, now more than two years since its launch, there is much to discuss. Players can look forward to insights from a recent interview with game director Mikael Eriksson for what lies ahead.
