Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Reveals New Voice Actor for Sephiroth
Square Enix has announced a change in the English voice actor for Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
Square Enix has officially announced that the English voice actor for Sephiroth has been replaced for the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. In a recent discussion with YouTuber and Final Fantasy 7 enthusiast Maximilian Dood, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that players will hear a different voice for the iconic One-Winged Angel in this latest installment of the remake series. This revelation followed the unveiling of gameplay in the reveal trailer at Summer Game Fest 2026, where fans noted that Sephiroth's voice has a deeper, more gravelly tone. The shift in voice actors comes as Tyler Hoechlin, who previously voiced Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, was unavailable during the development of this title. Hamaguchi clarified that this led to the recasting of the role. For Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, fans will hear Tarvis Willingham take on the English role of Sephiroth. Willingham is a seasoned actor with an extensive background in video games, movies, and television, making him a familiar voice to many. Sonic the Hedgehog enthusiasts might recognize Willingham as the voice of Knuckles from Sonic Boom, while viewers of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood will know him as Roy Mustang. His notable work also includes contributions to the Dungeons & Dragons series Critical Role and voicing Thor in various Marvel projects. Moreover, Willingham has previously lent his voice to characters in both the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts franchises. While Willingham's extensive experience is promising for his portrayal of Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, some fans may feel a sense of disappointment regarding Hoechlin's departure, particularly as the trilogy approaches its climax. Hoechlin’s portrayal of Sephiroth also extended to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy Reunion and Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. As the release date remains unconfirmed, players who have been following the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga will have to wait and see how this change impacts their experience. Although Square Enix provided a glimpse of the future trajectory for Cloud and his companions, they have only committed to a spring 2027 launch across multiple platforms, including PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. More information about Willingham's performance as Sephiroth is expected in the upcoming months. In the meantime, fans can catch up on all the announcements made during Summer Game Fest 2026.
