Highlights from RuneFest 2026: RuneScape 4 and More Announcements

RuneFest 2026 has concluded, showcasing numerous exciting announcements from Jagex for its beloved MMORPG franchise.

RuneFest 2026 has wrapped up, unveiling a plethora of exciting news from Jagex’s celebration of its iconic fantasy MMORPG series. One of the most notable reveals was the confirmation of a fourth installment in the RuneScape universe. Although Jagex has not officially branded it as RuneScape 4—referring to it as RS4 during development—it is confirmed to be powered by Unreal Engine. This suggests a significant leap in both technology and design, hinting at a next-generation experience. While no release date has been disclosed, a teaser trailer has been made available. In addition, Jagex announced an animated adaptation of RuneScape, created in collaboration with popular YouTuber Charlie White, known as MoistCr1TiKaL, and the production firm Lyrical Media. Details about the content and release timeline remain under wraps, but this project is definitely in the works. The studio also revealed RuneScape Reignited, which is set to launch on December 2. Jagex described this update as a pivotal moment for the long-standing game, aiming to reignite interest among former players and excite current ones. Players can look forward to features like a Remastered Journey, an Adventure Guide, a revamped economy, and new high score tracking. Notably, full access to the Reignited content will be available to all players, without the need for a membership, from December 2 to December 12. Additionally, the much-anticipated Plugin API will debut this month, granting players early access ahead of its official launch. Jagex also shared what they termed as "the most extensive roadmap in the game's history." The 2027 content will unfold through three interconnected story arcs, continuing long-running narratives. The Hoard of Dragons, set for January, will serve as a sequel to the beloved Dragon Slayer quest. Following that, the City of Gnomes will carry on the gnome saga, while Secrets of Karamja will introduce a new endgame raid. Players can also anticipate a rework of the Agility skill, new solo and skilling bosses, area expansions, and a Grandmaster Quest. Meanwhile, Old School RuneScape revealed an updated roadmap as well. After two decades, the Golden Gates to Menaphos will finally open, accompanied by a selection of much-requested content. The Fractured Archive, a new endgame raid, is slated for release on October 20, with Hardcore Worlds launching on November 4. The next year will also advance the Fairytale questline, introduce Quest Month, Dungeons of Gielinor, a Mining and Smithing overhaul, Chosen Commander, and the Tower of Xorphoros. Furthermore, the recently launched spinoff, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, announced the Blood Crystal Saga alongside updated plans for 2027. The Luminance update, which is a precursor to the Blood Crystal Saga, will be released in December. This update will introduce Elven content, including new customization options for player characters and structures, as well as the Prayer skill. The Blood Crystal Saga is set to begin in early 2027 with the Song of Rebellion. This upcoming content will feature adversaries such as Moss Giants, Kebbits, and Implings, along with the Hunter Skill, new exploration areas, quests, gear, and house decorations inspired by the classic city of Prifddinas. Players can expect quarterly updates, which will include the introduction of new Skills such as Hunter and Slayer, along with monthly updates that will add side quests, weaponry, decorations, and quality of life enhancements. Additionally, official modding support for Dragonwilds will roll out in 2027, facilitated through a partnership with CurseForge, complete with dedicated tools for creators and an in-game mod browser and installer that will be accessible across all platforms, including consoles.
