Ubisoft Celebrates 10 Years of The Division with Over 50 Million Players and Teases The Division 3

As The Division franchise marks its 10th anniversary, Ubisoft reveals that the series has surpassed 50 million players. Development on The Division 3 is also underway.

Massive Entertainment has revealed that the iconic The Division franchise has surpassed 50 million players across its various titles, coinciding with the series' 10th anniversary. That's quite a milestone for this looter shooter series! The journey began in 2016 when The Division made its debut, following a highly anticipated reveal at Ubisoft's E3 2013 showcase, which set expectations high for next-gen gaming. The Division 2 launched in 2019, though it struggled to meet Ubisoft's sales targets. Since then, several spinoffs have been released. Earlier this year at Gamescom, Massive Entertainment announced a new downloadable content (DLC) for The Division 2. Titled Echoes of Central Park, this expansion is set to release on November 3 and promises to introduce a horror-themed flashback campaign, an increase in stash space, a level boost, and more. This exciting new content is likely to attract both returning players and newcomers eager to engage in the action. Given the impressive player count, it’s no wonder that Ubisoft and Massive are committed to continuing the franchise. Development on Tom Clancy's The Division 3 is officially underway at Massive Entertainment. Initially led by executive producer Julian Gerighty, who also worked on Star Wars Outlaws and The Division 2, the project is now under the direction of Mathias Karlson, who served as game director for The Division 2. Gerighty has since left Ubisoft to join DICE, the studio behind Battlefield. In a social media announcement shortly after his departure, Gerighty confirmed the ongoing progress of The Division 3, stating, "This is not a secret. It's been announced. It's shaping up to be a monster." He expressed optimism about the project, hinting at its potential impact akin to that of the original game. Following his exit, Massive sought to reassure fans that The Division 3 remains in capable hands. The studio conveyed, "For our players, don’t worry, Agents. Our teams who built this world with Julian are still here, carrying it forward with an ambitious, unchanged commitment to the future." While a release date for The Division 3 has yet to be disclosed, Ubisoft is prioritizing its development. Last year, Massive Entertainment launched a "voluntary career transition program" to refocus efforts on The Division series and its Snowdrop engine.
